- I started listening to *The Winter Soldier: Cold Front* and I got to ch5 and finally Bucky is here… and I’m cackling because he’s been running a smuggling ring for contraband ranging from sodas to candy to alcohol … he doesn’t know who he’s getting this stuff for either… bc this NERD devised a system via library books.
There’s a directory at the front of *War & Peace* b/c “I figured that nobody would be checking that out, it feels a little too ironic right now… so, say one of the boys wants a pack of Mike n Ike’s, they check the directory, see Mike n Ike’s are page 7, and they find their book, fold down the corner of page 7 and put it back on the cart to be reshelved. If you want 2 boxes you fold it twice.”

I feel like I’m gonna be adding this book to my general background/history even tho it’s not really MCU complaint lolol
- oohh the commander he's in trouble w/ over this rn is apparently an old friend of his dad

- fjdksaldj Bucky flirting with the girl at the soda shoppe in *Cold Front* and he's literally over here thinking *Oh, yeah, they'd definitely be getting to 2nd base in the alley behind Malikoff's tonight, maybe rounding 3rd if he swung right.* you horny little bastard teenager LOL
He's such a lil player, too. like there's at least 3 different girls in various situations that have been mentioned so far lmfao
*Why did knowing this was bait not make the trap any easier to sidestep? All his life, Bucky had been told to just ignore them, but that always felt too much like conceding.*
*His father had lectured him about battles and war and how sometimes, giving up a fight was the bravest thing a man could do, but Bucky had never believed it. He always had to trip every snare, pick every scab, touch his fingers to the burner even though he knew it was hot.*
- he's 16 in 1941 in this book, which is why his dad's old buddy, who is sort of a stand-in father figure (though Bucky keeps having *you're NOT my father!* moments about this man both to him directly and also to other ppl about him lmfaoooo) is like BIG SIGH about him trying to hard to get into the Army (i'm like "oh, so like MCU!Steve, minus the giant list of health issues, it's just no, son, you're too young!" lmfaooo)
- it's just funny b/c like I KNOW this as a part of him pre-war, and in his younger days in general, but we reeeeallyyyy don't see it much in the MCU at all so it's like... you horny bastard LOL

- ohmygooood he ran his lil contraband ring in the library for almost a year HAHAHA
- i gotta see how this project he just got recruited for ties into TWS program, if it does at all, and then see how the rest of it unfolds but ohhhh boy this is getting fun
- Bucky already knowing Russian and learning German at 16 is a fun fact in this book
His family on his moms side is Russian do his mom taught them so he & Becks could talk to their grandma
And he was learning German from a Swiss delivery driver during that year of contraband running
